Stoney Pass
Our romantic getaway! This trip had every element of all the things we love. Getting to the campsite was an adventure in itself. There were beautiful views, tight turns, dips, and water crossing’s. Some parts of this trail were pretty tight for 2nd Amendment but with Rob behind the wheel we made it though without a scratch. We came upon some sections that really tested the suspension and we got to see how well the truck could flex. Once we made it to our spot I was blown away. Talk about a perfect place to set up camp, it had plenty of space with level ground, just feet away from a river filled with fish, mountain view’s, hiking trails, and a backdrop of trees. We set up camp and headed to the river where we immediately caught a few trout and just like that, we had ourselves a tasty meal. That night we set up our propane fire and cozied up with some drinks and music. I should mention, I have always, always had wood fires and never thought I would want a propane fire. But let me tell you, not having the stale smoke smell all over everything and in the tent, plus being able to have the fire under the awning, and not circling the fire to keep from inhaling the smoke makes it just so much more comfortable for long camping trips. I enjoy a good old fashioned wood fire just as much as the next camper but I have to admit, the propane fire has its perks too. The next day we decided to take our fishing gear and check out the hiking trail that ran alongside the river, we found a spot that was so cool we stayed to fish even after it started raining. We headed back to camp after a couple hours and made some brats while we listed to music by the fire and watched the rain under the cover of our awning. One thing we both love is to cuddle up and watch our favorite shows and new movies together, so we download episodes and movies before we leave then hook up the iPad to the Dometic PLB and just like that we have movie night! The funniest thing that happened on this trip was the nightly invasion of the truck bed by a local chipmunk who just loved tearing apart anything paper he could find back there. Every morning we would open the tailgate to find something else this little guy had destroyed. We decided to keep the TP inside of the truck for obvious reasons. We packed back up and headed out to Creed where we stopped at a local pizza joint, and checked out some local shops before heading the rest of the way home. Since the campsite is so close to where we live, and so perfect, we will definitely be making this camping trip again.
